Programme

Indigenous people are playing an increasingly significant role in the continuing growth of tourism – an industry vital to the world's economies.

The potential of tourism to boost economic development for indigenous peoples is huge.  Tourism is a US$7.6 trillion industry, employing in excess of 292 million people worldwide. Tourism earnings in New Zealand rose in 2016 to be the top export earner with a direct contribution of $12.9b to the economy.

These opportunities continue to grow and the question we are all faced with is - how do we balance the potential for economic prosperity with the preservation of our natural environment and resources.
