Membership

The membership fee is $65.00 annually

Pre-condition to membership
A person is entitled to become a member if:

  1. that person agrees to assume the liability to pay the Members Guarantee Amount;
  2. that person agrees to contribute to the fulfilment of the Society's objects and purpose; and
  3. the Board has approved that person as a potential Member.

Becoming a member
Subject to the Corporations Act, a person becomes a member on the registration of that person's name in the Register of Members.

Membership categories

(from the current constitution of the MDSANZ Inc.)

The membership of the Society is divided into the following categories of members:

  1. Ordinary members
  2. Honorary members
  3. Senior members
  4. Affiliate members

Ordinary members

  1. Unless the Board decides to exercise its discretion to vary all or any of the requirements which follow, Ordinary Members shall be persons who
    1. are medical practitioners registered in Australia and/or New Zealand; and
    2. are active in the field of movement disorders or in related disciplines and who have an active interest in the work and aims of the Society;
  2. Ordinary Members will pay such subscription fee as determined by the Board. The subscription fee is payable in such manner and on such date or dates as the Board or any committee of the Board authorised by the Board, may from time to time determine.
  3. Ordinary Members are entitled to vote on each matter at every general meeting in accordance with rule 16.1.
  4. Ordinary Members are eligible for election to the Board.

Honoury members

  1. Honorary Members are scientists, medical practitioners and persons practising in related disciplines and distinguished public figures recognised by the Society for their outstanding scientific or other contributions to the field of movement disorders and who have been made an Honorary Member in accordance with this Constitution.
  2. Honorary members are exempt from subscription fees but will nevertheless receive Society journals and information as circulated to all other classes of Members.
  3. Honorary members do not have voting rights and are not eligible for election to the Board.

Senior members

  1. Senior Members are Ordinary Members who have retired from active work in the medical aspects of movement disorder, notified the Board of this fact and who have been made a Senior Member in accordance with this Constitution.
  2. Senior Membership will be awarded for life.
  3. Senior Members are exempt from subscription fees but will still nevertheless receive Society journals and information as circulated to all other classes of Members.
  4. Senior Members do not have voting rights and are not eligible for election to the Board.

Affiliate members

  1. Affiliate Members are:
    1. registrars in training who are interested in the field of movement disorders
    2. movement disorders nurses; and
    3. other allied health professionals and scientists working in the field of movement disorders, and who have been made an Honorary Fellow in accordance with this Constitution.
  2. Affiliate Members will pay such subscription fee as determined by the Board. The subscription fee is payable in such manner and on such date or dates as the Board or any committee of the Board authorised by the Board, may from time to time determine.
  3. Affiliate Members are entitled to receive all Society journals and literature as circulated to all other classes of Members.
  4. Affiliate Members do not have voting rights and are not eligible for election to the Board.

Every nomination for Membership shall be made in writing signed by the applicant and shall be in such a form as the Committee from time to time prescribes.
